OUR BY-LAWS

The International Federation of Kidney Foundations is referred to in this document as "the Federation".

1. Our Mission

Vision

Improvement in the quality of life and quality of care for all at risk of, or suffering from, kidney disease regardless of race, colour, creed or social class.

Mission

To foster international collaboration and exchange of ideas between local kidney foundations and not for profit organisations to enable and help empower local membership organisations to improve health, well being and the quality of life of all individuals at threat from kidney disease.

Scope

  • Advocacy for improved health care delivery;
  • Highest possible outcomes of care;
  • Facilitation of Educational Programs for and from member organisations;
  • Promotion of Research into kidney disease;
  • Fostering an Environment of Open Communication and Exchange of Ideas among organisations;
  • Creating a forum for Collaborative Fund Raising; and Foster improvement of local Kidney Foundations
  • Assistance with the Establishment of New Kidney Foundations where they do not currently exist
  • Act as a global voice on kidney health issues

2. Principal Executive Office

2.1 The principal executive office of the Federation shall be co-located with the President or such other place as decided by the Directors.

2.2 A copy of these By-laws will be kept in the Federation’s principal office and shall be furnished to a Member upon written request.

3. Membership

3.1 Organizational membership

a) To be eligible for membership an organization must:

i) have a primary commitment to improving the health and well being of individuals with kidney disease;
ii) be recognized as non-profit (that is, as having legal status as a charitable foundation) by the laws of their country;
iii) must be multidisciplinary, which means they should ordinarily have among their membership patients, and at least two of the following groups: medical doctors, nurses, dieticians, social workers, technicians, family members of patients and volunteers at large; and
iv) must be actively involved in the activities described in the Mission Statement in these By-laws.

b) Application for membership shall be made to the Board. The Board shall approve or reject the application for membership having regard to the eligibility criteria set out in this clause. The Board may appoint, in its absolute discretion, a Membership Subcommittee to perform this function.

3.2 Associate membership

a) Individuals may apply for associate membership of the Foundation. To be eligible, an individual must also be a member of a Foundation Organizational member (if one exists in their country).

b) An associate member shall be entitled to receive notice of, and attend, Council meetings but shall not have an entitlement to vote at such meetings. Applications for associate membership shall be made to the Board. The Board shall approve or reject the application in its absolute discretion.

3.3 Membership

Representatives of member organizations and associate members are considered members.


Amendments to IFKF By-laws have been made since incorporation, on the following dates:
