OUR RESOURCES

Our Inventory of IFKF Member Resources

Our regularly updated Inventory of IFKF Member Resources is the most accessed document on our website. Health professionals utilise the information when seeking multilingual information for patients or to gain local 'kidney' community insight, when patients travel. Many IFKF Council Members offer education resources in both local language and English.

Most Council Members are delighted to share their resources and materials with other Council Members, to save on time and precious funds. New IFKF members are encouraged to develop similar resources for their communities in local language, while observing existing copyright and obtaining permission to copy. If utilising other Member education resources (with their permission) ensure you use a reputable translator, skilled at working in health education. You should also ensure treatment methods are in line with your local standards and practice.

IFKF Sister Program Application Form

This is a NEW and refreshingly innovative program for IFKF Council Members only, aimed at enhancing cooperation among Kidney Foundations worldwide. Its mission is to facilitate the cooperation between developing Foundations and centers of excellence and the encouragement of exchange of personnel, resources and strategies.

The format - The essence of the Sister Program is to promote the development of a young and/or smaller Foundation (EF = Emerging Foundation) through the goodwill and resources of the supporting Foundation (SF).

Benefits - The SF will have the advantage of recognition in IFKF media ( IFKF news, e-update and website) and can also capitalize on the strengths of the EF based on local experience and locally prevailing clinical and environmental conditions. A EF will have preference for travel grants to our Annual Meeting and to register at a discount rate.

A special Certificate will be given at our IFKF Annual Meeting to both organizations to knowledge the partnership.

First time application - Any Kidney Foundation can form an IFKF Sister Center pairing, provided that:
* at least one unit is in the developing world is considered the Emerging Foundation
* both units are IFKF Council Members

The application system is an online form that allows the main contact person at both centers to access and fill-out the application information. Please contact teresa.taylor@kidney.org.au to receive information on how to proceed and to see our membership list to allow one to make the first contact. You are required to provide the 2 valid email addresses of the contacts at each center.

Education Program for Health Professionals

Education Committee’ Tasks
• Maintain an inventory of contact details of member organisations, their educational programs and activities for patients and health professionals.
• Review the listings of useful web links for the IFKF website
• Recommend to the Board, education programs for renal healthcare professionals and patients
• Function as a member of the IFKF International Meeting Program Committee

Inventory of educational publications and weblinks
• Developing the inventory was our first and  remains an important ongoing project.
• The original inventory grew from a few pages to a document of over 35 pages with contributions from now 62 member organisations representing 39 countries, containing most of their publications as well as their programs and other activities.
• During the past 8 years downloadable information provided on the internet has grown considerably and hence it was decided during this year’s conference to change the format and provide contact details of member organisations only.
• The inventory and weblinks are updated regularly and users may download fact sheets, brochures and even entire manuals to develop educational materials, providing copyrights are observed.
• It is important to keep our inventory up to date. Advise the current manager mavennegoor@aol.com of any changes to your address details and new information that can be shared by other kidney foundations. Assistance is provided to kidney foundations that may have difficulty in producing information packs.

Annual Seminars and Workshops
• During the past annual IFKF Meetings a half or whole day seminar or workshops have been organised for local renal healthcare professionals in parallel with other sessions.
• Representatives of the local multi disciplinary professional organisations were invited to be involved in program planning, guided by members of the education committee as requested. Experts from the local kidney community and the IFKF were invited to contribute to the different sessions as requested.
• Recently kidney patient organisations were involved in our forward planning and a representative of the European Kidney Patients Federation has joined our committee. In addition to the different professional disciplines and kidney patients, kidney foundation staff and meeting delegates have also attended our seminar or workshops.

Future activities
• Education programs for healthcare professionals and patients should continue and focus on local specific needs that range from prevention to slowing or stopping the progression of CKD, its treatment and outcome and to patient education, self care and general well being
• Education Committee members are committed to their role as advisors and work in association with local professional and patient’s groups.
• It is hoped that the Inventory will grow further and the IFKF website will develop in line with future funding and developments within the IFKF.
